The Popes

The Popes - Release the Beast
Release The Beast

It's always a thrill to hear new material from these guys. Disc one is a live set from London, 2003. The production is in-your-face live: raw enough to capture the Popes' energy and spirit but polished just enough so nothing gets lost in the mix. It's a killer set featuring live versions of some of the best tracks from 2000's Holloway Boulevard release (included here as disc 2), a traditional piece or two, and a couple of songs from Shane Macgowan's 2 solo studio efforts. Shane himself contributes the liner notes which are an entertaining read. The live disc alone is worth picking up. Throw in the disc 2 studio album and you're a fool for passing it up! If you're a fan of guitar driven, trad. Irish-punk, you'll love it.
