BRANIVOJ MILINOVIC

(March 9, 1991 4:05 pm)

18 year old Branivoj Milinovic (or Brana to his friends), was sitting in a cafe in central Belgrade, Yugoslavia on the afternoon of March 9, 1991. Outside, the very first anti-Milosevic protests were being held in the square. Around 4pm, Brana and his friends left the cafe to re-join the protesters when police fired into the crowd. Brana was hit and died at 4:05pm.

Brana was a fan of The Pogues but more important than that, he was the first casualty of the anti-Milosevic demonstrations in Belgrade.

Today, an Irish Pub stands on the site where Brana fell in 1991...And every year on March 9th at 4:05 in Belgrade, you can hear The Pogues playing on the radio...

Thanks to Nikola for all of his help putting this feature together.
