About The Pub
Jer's Pogues Pub started in January of 2000, or sometime around there. I was taking a basic web design online course and needed a subject for a web site.
Since The Pogues were in my CD player quite often and I had quite a few articles, photos and bootlegs lying around, I chose to base my first web site on them.
The earliest incarnation of the site was very primitive, with huge images, poor design and limited content. Through the help of people like DzM and Scottra, who are both
considerably more experienced at web design than me, I eventually got the site presentable. In early 2001 I actually paid for the domain name and server space to make
the site as presentable and easy to access as possible.
I have attempted to make Jer's Pogues Pub more of a resource than a fan site. I never expected that the old cumbersome mess I started two years
ago would become what it is today. I have had the opportunity to meet so many cool people from places like Japan, Brazil, Yugoslavia, Eastonia, Australia, Chile, and every other conceivable
corner of the globe. There is so much I would like to do with it but I am limited by time constraints, lack of web design knowledge and experience, and the funds to have more
server space. In the meantime I will continue to update the site as often as I can (2-3 times a year).
If you are curious, I live in Michigan, USA, near Ann Arbor and Detroit. I have been into music since I was old enough to hear, being turned onto
The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan at a very young age by my parents. I discovered punk rock in 1984 when I moved to Marquette, a small city in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
I couldn't believe there was music more extreme than Ozzy Osbourne or KISS. The Clash, The Replacements, Husker Du, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys and Descendents were some of my early favorites. I Still
listen to each of them, as well as a hundred other punk, indie and alternative bands today. I have also developed a passion for alternative country, classic outlaw country, classic rock and traditional Irish music.
I have played in bands almost constantly since I was 15.
I first heard The Pogues in 1986, in a crowded bar in Marquette. I had some older friends (I was 16 at the time) who would buy me drinks and sing Dirty Old Town at the top of their drunken lungs until closing time.
I have been listening to The Pogues regularly since about 1990 when my then girlfriend - now wife came home with Red Roses For Me. Within a year or 2, I had the entire catalog and my collection is still growing.
She may regret getting me hooked on The Pogues today. With the time I spend working on this site, traveling to see Shane, and appreciating the band over the speakers of our local Irish Pub,
her patience is commendable to say the least. In a real way, this is all because of her!
Being a late bloomer to the band, I have yet to see them play live. I have seen Shane several times and was also fortunate enough to see Spider Stacy in March of 2001.
Now, with the reunion shows, I have new hope of finally getting to see The Pogues.
Thanks for visiting. I hope you enjoy the site.
